Why is he important?

Saville experimented with type and image to push the boundaries of art and design in the areas of album design and pop culture he was heavily influential in the "Cool Brittania" era

Historical context

Saville was influenced by early modernist symbolism which he juxtaposed with more complex images of coding bars.He also started working in fashion by joining the art director Marc Ascoli and photographer Nick Knight - who was to become a long term collaborator - on advertising campaigns for the Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. He drew inspiration from artists like Barbara Kruger and Richard Prince. The pesrson working at this time who i think is most similar to Saville must be Stefan Sagmeister who was also obsessed with music graphics and type.
